My 93-Year-Old Great Depression Granny Shares Survival Wisdom We Need Today. What can a 93-year-old Great Depression survivor teach us about preparedness, self-reliance, healthy aging, and living a meaningful life? More than most experts.
My granny was born during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl era. She grew up with 8 brothers and 3 sisters on a small working farm where everyone worked from daylight until dark. They raised chickens, rabbits, hogs, grew their own food, canned hundreds of jars every year, preserved meat without modern refrigeration, and learned to waste nothing.
The amazing part?
She says they never even knew they were poor.
Now at 93 years old, she still gardens, mows her own yard, stays active every day, solves word puzzles, has an incredibly sharp memory, remembers the names of her children's teachers, and can still recall the first, middle, and last names of more than 30 grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In this conversation, she shares timeless wisdom about preparedness, homesteading, simple living, resilience, faith, gratitude, healthy aging, food preservation, and the mindset that helped an entire generation overcome incredibly difficult times.
Whether you're interested in survival skills, bushcraft, homesteading, preparedness, off-grid living, gardening, canning food, food storage, sustainable living, longevity, healthy aging, or simply learning from one of the toughest generations in American history, I think you'll enjoy this conversation.
One of the biggest lessons I took away wasn't about gear.
It was about staying useful.
Her generation didn't prepare because it was a hobby. They prepared because it was simply how they lived.
Those lessons matter now more than ever.
Key lessons from this interview:
